FAQ

NeeDoh® questions, answered by the makers.

We invented NeeDoh, so we can tell you exactly what it is, what is inside it, and how to make sure the one you are holding is real.

What's a NeeDoh, really.

What is a NeeDoh?

A NeeDoh is a sensory squish: a soft, satisfying toy you squeeze, stretch, and smush to keep your hands busy and your mind a little calmer. It is the original of its kind, made by Schylling since 1975, and it now comes in a whole family of textures, shapes, and sizes.

What's inside a NeeDoh?

Most NeeDohs are built from a soft outer skin filled with a smooth squishable center. Some variants add a sparkle, a crunch, or a color-changing fill, and the product page for each one tells you exactly what it holds.

How is NeeDoh different from slime or putty?

NeeDoh isn’t slime and isn’t putty. It’s a soft, dough-filled squish inside a stretchy outer skin, so it holds its shape between squeezes, doesn’t leave residue on your hands, and doesn’t crack over time. It’s built to squeeze, stretch, smush, and come right back.

Is it safe? Age-graded? Edible?

Are NeeDohs safe? Are they edible?

NeeDohs are toys, not food, so they are not edible and should not be eaten. As with any small toy, keep an eye on little ones during play.

What age is NeeDoh recommended for?

Ages 3 and up. Younger children can enjoy a NeeDoh with a grown-up nearby, since it’s a small toy and, like anything small, isn’t meant to go in the mouth.

Is NeeDoh non-toxic?

Yes. Every NeeDoh is filled with a non-toxic, dough-like compound and made to meet US toy safety standards. It’s a toy, not a snack — please don’t eat it.

The one everyone asks first.

How do I know it's a real NeeDoh?

The surest way is to buy from this official site or from a retailer we name on our Where to Buy page. A genuine NeeDoh comes from Schylling, carries our name, and is built to last months of squishing rather than tearing in a week. If a listing is much cheaper than everywhere else and the seller is unfamiliar, treat that as a warning sign.

Where To Buy A Real NeeDoh

What does a fake NeeDoh feel like?

Thin, rubbery, and quick to fail. Fakes tend to tear at the seam within a few squeezes, don’t spring back to shape, and don’t carry the Schylling name or the NeeDoh® trademark on the packaging. A real NeeDoh feels softer and more forgiving, and it keeps its shape after hundreds of squishes.

How can I report a counterfeit NeeDoh?

Email us at info@schylling.com with the seller’s name and any photos you have. If you bought online, include the listing URL. We follow up on every report.

Why is there an air bubble, and how do I fix it?

What's the difference between the sizes?

NeeDoh comes in three sizes. Teenie is pocket-size, great for desks, party favors, and small hands. Standard is the classic handful most people picture. Super is the big one, an oversized squish that fills your whole palm. Many of our characters and cubes come in all three, so you can pick the feel you want.

Do colors ship randomly?

Yes. Each pack includes one randomly selected color, so the exact shade is a small surprise. Every color is the same genuine NeeDoh squish inside, so whichever one arrives, you are getting the real thing.

The busy-hands question.

Does NeeDoh help with focus?

Many people use NeeDoh as a quiet way to keep their hands occupied, and that can help promote focus, attention, and centering during work, study, or a busy moment. It is a sensory toy, not a medical device, so we describe it for what it is: a satisfying squish that gives restless hands something better to do.

Do teachers and OTs use NeeDoh in classrooms?

All the time. NeeDoh is a favorite quiet fidget in classrooms, therapy sessions, and testing rooms — hands stay busy without making a sound. Teenie Singles and multi-packs are popular for OT bulk kits and classroom sensory bins.

Can adults use NeeDoh, or is it just for kids?

Very much for adults too. Kidults are one of the fastest-growing NeeDoh audiences — the same satisfying squish works at a desk, on a call, in the car, or on the couch. Some of our best-loved shapes were designed with grown-up hands in mind.
